Thermal spray

Thermal spray is a coating process, a growing technology, which allows the realization of coatings with improved and increasingly durable mechanical characteristics. This section contains informations on thermal spraying: what it is and what it is used for, main application techniques, with particular attention to plasma spray and hvof.

The Air Plasma Spray (APS) technology is the most versatile in case of severe corrosion of materials and high thermal and mechanical wear environments. Its power, temperatures ranging from 6600°C to 16600°C, is able to laminate any type of material, from polymers to ceramics.

Highly oxygenated fuel (HVOF) is a thermal spray technology using gas combustion, such as ethanol. The main peculiarity of this technique is combinating fuel and oxygen. This technique has some limitations in terms of materials, mainly due to the high operating temperatures, but remains among the quickest and above all economical surface treatments.
